Street Dance Classes for Kids in Singapore: Developing Style, Confidence, and Foundations at All That Jazz
Mathew Ward • March 12, 2026
Street dance is one of the most popular and accessible dance genres in the world. It is the style kids see in music videos, on social media, and in movies — and it is a genre that celebrates individuality, creativity, and authentic self-expression. At All That Jazz, our street dance programme goes well beyond learning choreography. We focus on developing real street dance skills, strong foundations, and long-term growth.
What Is Our Street Dance Programme?
The All That Jazz street dance programme is a structured training pathway for students aged two to eighteen. Led by Head of Street Dance Mr Amin, the programme focuses on four key outcomes: technical training that builds strong foundations through systematic skill development, creative freedom that encourages individuality and artistic expression, performance readiness that prepares dancers for stage confidence, and personal growth that fosters discipline and character development. Our programme aligns with RSL Awards (a leading international awarding body for music and performing arts qualifications), providing students with clear benchmarks and internationally recognised certification at each level.
How the Programme Is Structured
The programme begins with our younger classes — Tots, Stars, Minis, and Pre-Juniors — for children aged two to six. These classes focus on age-appropriate movement, rhythm and coordination, confidence building, and preparation for structured training. From there, students progress through five graded levels (Level 1 to Level 5), each aligned with a corresponding RSL grade. Level 1 introduces basic techniques and groove. Level 2 develops coordination and freestyle elements. Level 3 brings intermediate technical complexity. Level 4 focuses on advanced performance quality. Level 5 is a 1.5-hour intensive class covering deeper technical work. Progression is guided rather than rushed, allowing dancers to grow at a pace that is healthy and sustainable.
The Cypher: What Makes Street Dance Unique
One of the defining features of our programme is the cypher component — a circle formation where dancers take turns entering the centre to express themselves individually while others watch and support. The cypher is central to street dance culture and represents something fundamentally different from other dance genres. In most dance styles, students learn choreography and perform it together. In street dance, students are also expected to create their own movement, respond to music in real time, and develop a personal style. The cypher teaches dancers to be creators, not just performers — and that is a powerful shift in mindset.
Assessment and Progression
For younger students, assessments are internal — conducted during regular class time with no exam stress. This approach lets teachers observe natural development and guide placement without putting pressure on young children. For students in Levels 1 to 5, RSL examinations provide formal, internationally recognised certification. The exam period typically runs in late April each year, and successful students receive internationally recognised RSL certificates that can be used for academic portfolios.
The Competitive Pathway
For students who want to take their street dance further, our competitive programme offers intensive training with five to eight hours per week commitment. Auditions are held annually, and competitive students represent All That Jazz at major events. The programme demands dedication, teamwork, and a professional attitude — and it rewards students with incredible growth and unforgettable performance experiences.

Q: What can you expect to learn in a Street Dance class?
A: Street dance at All That Jazz develops real technique, individual style, and a genuine understanding of street dance culture. Every class covers technical foundations, creative expression, and performance readiness.
